Special expertise
A member architecture firm with a long-standing relationship with a local airport authority had received the commission to design a major $30 million terminal addition. However FEEMA's changes in flood plain classifications had rendered the site unbuildable. The firm asked for help in resolving the problems from a fellow GDA member with significant water management engineering experience. The result was a re-classification of the waterway and the introduction of a flood management plan and of an engineering solution which reduced the risk of future flooding in the terminal area. GDA teaming removed what appeared to be a permanent roadblock to needed expansion, allowed a major project to proceed and brought enhanced value to the client.
Local support
A member architecture firm had a large corporate financial services client with office and retail facilities located across seven states. The company acquired several smaller banks in Texas. A number of small projects - branch and office space relocations and renovations - required local on-the-ground design and construction administration assistance. A local GDA member provided trusted and timely support assistance to the firm in support of this client. Because of the GDA relationship, the firm and its client received service out of proportion to the dollar value of the work with a level of trust unlikely in a more arm's length transaction.
